So this kid has this saturn vue and the hood was up and I was looking the engine. I thought hey that engine looks like a honda V6 It has a distinctive intake manifold but I thought maybe it just looks the same GM would never use a honda motor.
Turns out I was wrong these freaking things had honda engines 2004-2007!
250hp 242 torques

Don't know why that's surprising. Car companies don't just stop at engines, and are known to use whole competitor cars in their lineup. Sometimes for baffling reasons...

I had a wtf face too when my non-car lover friend told me this back in the days. I was like, dude...stop crack. Stop talking shit. Him: BUT I SAW IT ON RPM (MotorWeek knock out). Me: BUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLSHHHHIIITTTTTTT. My jaw dropped after a search...apologies were given.

Oh man, if I had a Cavalier I'd totally try to score some JDM Toyota Cavalier brake/turn lamps.

GM's 3400 was long in the tooth and just couldn't compete. The 3.6 was just released but I guess not ready for the Vue/Equinox yet. I guess they had to be competitive somehow.

Wow you are like the bored guy who has already heard the joke before and ruins it for everyone else. Its no surprise to you because you already knew.

Apparently they traded GM for some diesel engine to use in europe.

...already know that car companies sometimes behave like people at a swap meet and raid eachothers parts bins? I don't expect everyone to be a giant car nerd...but... this is oppositelock. Is it really unreasonable to expect people here to know that?

Interesting, that would make sense.

They still used the same engine for the Base AWD models from 2008 to 2010, if I remember correctly.

Also, OnStar in Acura RL and a few CL and TLs from o2-04

Indeed they are honda engines. I think they 0-60 in something like 7.5 and will chirp all 4 tires to.

Odd, I was just thinking about this on my drive to work this morning. The Vue has one of the odder drivetrain lineups in modern cars, in my opinion.
Base: Ecotec 2.2 I4, with a GM automatic or manual.
Mid: GM 60* V6, 3400, around since the early 90's, this time assembled in China (if it's the same as the 3400 in the same vintage Equinoxs), with a Honda 5 speed auto and available awd.
Redline: Honda V6, Honda 5 speed automatic.
The Equinox and Torrent (gross) didn't have the Ecotec available, and the 3400 (assembled in China) with the Honda transmission was standard. Eventually, there was a "Sport" and "GXP" version of them, with the GM 3.6L V6 and a GM 6 speed automatic.

I did know, sorry to be Buzz Killington.
Being in Michigan I have, of course encountered people wanting advice while looking for a car/CUV that had to have an American badge (...you know, other than myself). And when they bring up this Vue, I like to remind them it's a Honda under the hood.
Also Pontiac Vibe= Toyota Matrix.
And I still giggle every time I see "Vibe" on the back of someones car lol

hahaha. just so you know the giggle was because of my incredibly immature/inappropriate mind...
at least my wife finds it equally entertaining or I'd be in trouble a lot lol
